12” x 18” Crayon Portrait

These pieces are original crayon portraits on paper. They're 12" x 18" with their frame and a black backing with title and artist name. First seen at the first Jade H. Art Show on August 9, 2025, these works are an exploration of Black femininity that emerged from being in a state of judgement-less play and childlike wonder. In addition to play, there was a strong pull towards representing Black women appropriately. We often aren't given the grace to feel sadness, anger, fear, lust, boredom, or even happiness without some level of rejection or dehumanization. Each person has thoughts and feelings that mirror a real-life person. And while, in all cases, this person is me, they simultaneously emulate the beautiful, intelligent, diverse, complex, and loving Black women that I've had the joy of crossing paths with. These pieces are largely children to compliment the crayon medium and give visibility to girlhood.
